A Letter from Ayla

Dear Neighbor,

I’m Ayla Hofler—a nurse, chaplain, teacher, mother, and proud Washington County resident. I’m running for County Commission because it’s time for leadership that reflects the values of everyday people—rural families, working parents, and neighbors who just want a fair say in the future of our county.

I’ve spent my life on the frontlines—caring for the critically ill, guiding families through crisis, and teaching the next generation. Now I want to bring that steady, real-world experience to our local government.

I’ll fight to protect our land rights, make housing more affordable for working families, fully support our first responders, and make sure your tax dollars are spent responsibly.

I don’t come from politics—I come from people. And I believe that together, we can protect what matters and plan for what’s next.

Thank you for the opportunity to earn your trust.

Warmly,

Ayla Hofler

Ayla is a very strong, intelligent person who brings a great deal of experience professionally to our community. She will be a great asset in the areas of public health, mental health and drug addiction/recovery. She also has been an educator to both adults and children for years and will be a great liaison to our school districts and community education programs. Ayla is not a politician, she has been a hard working servant of the county for 50 years. She can be a ‘Bull in a china shop” when called for, however, she can also be a leader in sorting out the chaos that can follow restructuring policies, procedures and being transparent. Vote for Ayla May 19th.

I am proud to endorse Ayla Hofler for Washington County Commissioner, District 4.

Ayla has lived in western Washington County for more than fifty years and has a deep understanding of the land, communities, and traditions that make this area unique. District 4 is not just the city of Hillsboro—it includes farms, timberland, and rural communities whose history and livelihoods are closely tied to the land.

Ayla supports farmers, the timber industry, and responsible land use. She believes property owners should have reasonable rights to use their land, including the ability to build a home on property they own. Too often, policies encourage dense development while placing unnecessary restrictions on rural landowners. Ayla recognizes these challenges and will work to ensure land-use decisions are fair, balanced, and respectful of rural communities.

She also believes in preserving our county’s history and protecting farmland and timberland for future generations. Ayla has demonstrated a strong ability to research complex issues, ask difficult questions, and hold government processes accountable. She is not afraid to challenge decisions when something does not seem right.

It is true that Ayla may not be everyone’s favorite person in local government. But public office is not a popularity contest—it is about representing taxpayers and doing the hard work needed to serve the community. Washington County needs leaders who will stand up for residents, not leaders who are influenced by large corporations or special interests.

Ayla has proven she is willing to do the work, speak up when necessary, and remain focused on what is best for the people who live here. Her independence and commitment to the community are exactly what District 4 needs.

I encourage voters to support Ayla Hofler for Washington County Commissioner, District 4.

Ayla is the only candidate running for District 4 that has ever come to our City Council Meetings and she listens. I don’t think the other candidates even know where Gaston is.
